Tânisi.
My name is Alvin Laboucan. I am a member of the Driftpile Cree Nation, which is located in Treaty 8 territory. I am in my fourth year at the University of Calgary in the Bachelor of Social Work program. I have three sons, Haiden, Shiloh, and Kai, who motivate me. Shiloh was diagnosed with autism when he was three, and Jordan's Principal helped us get funding for him at a young age. With that funding, he could see a speech-language pathologist and get an educational assistant when he started school. Many families don't know how or where to find financial support. Some families require assistance determining the initial steps, such as obtaining a referral for their children's assessment. My goal is to work as a wellness coach or school counsellor to help young minds with mental health and wellness. I would also like to help families who feel lost and do not know where to seek help. My education journey would not have been possible without the support of my loved ones. Thank you, Denean, Mom and Dad, brothers and sister: Driftpile Cree Nation and the education staff at the University of Calgary.
